Tour of the National Museum of the Great Lakes & Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship
October 7 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
$41.15
The Maritime Museum of Sandusky is sponsoring a trip to the National Museum of the Great Lakes and its 617-foot iron ore freighter, Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship.
Board your 18-passenger, climate-controlled bus at the Sandusky Maritime Museum parking lot. The first stop is Toledo’s iconic Tony Packo’s Restaurant for lunch. Since lunch is “on your own,” you’re able to enjoy items from the extensive menu including their Oktoberfest specials.
Then, it’s only a short trip to the National Museum of the Great Lakes. Enjoy guided tours of the Museum or the Museum Ship.
The Museum Ship tour is an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour that allows you to set foot in places that are typically off-limits. You’ll dive deeper into the ship’s inner-workings and visit “hard hat” only locations including the Owner’s galley, engine room, and forward cabins*.
The Museum exhibits tell stories spanning hundreds of years of Great Lakes’ history including fur traders in the 1600’s, the Underground Railroad in the 1800’s, Rum Runners in the 1900’s, on to sailors on the thousand-foot ships sailing today. You’ll appreciate how the Great Lakes impacted the social, economic, and political climate of North America.
The trip is scheduled for October 7th starting at 10:00 from the Maritime Museum of Sandusky parking lot. Make your reservations online at http://www.FirelandsAdventureTours.com.
*Note: The Museum Ship requires the ability to climb narrow stairs and passages and bend in order to accommodate low head room. Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants that you won’t necessarily mind getting dirty.
