SUMMARY:North Coast History Lecture Series: PT-109 and Sandusky's Hero: Remembering Ensign Leonard J. "Lenny" Thom
DESCRIPTION:PT-109 and Sandusky’s Hero: Remembering Ensign Leonard J. “Lenny” Thom \n\n\n\nOn the evening of August 1\, 1943\, PT-109 departed on what would become one of the most famous patrols of World War II. By dawn the following morning\, the boat had been rammed and sunk\, setting in motion a remarkable story of survival\, leadership\, and courage. Join the Maritime Museum of Sandusky and the Erie County Historical Society on the anniversary of those events for a special presentation exploring the history of PT-109\, the pivotal role played by Sandusky native Ensign Leonard J. “Lenny” Thom as Executive Officer\, and how his contributions have often been overshadowed in the broader historical narrative. The program will also introduce the community’s effort to permanently honor Thom through the proposed renaming of Shoreline Park and the installation of interpretive markers\, ensuring that both residents and visitors can better understand the remarkable story of one of Sandusky’s own. \n\n\n\nStop by for coffee & donuts in person\, included with Museum admission (free for members) or watch at home online.

SUMMARY:Maritime Lecture Series & Book Signing - The Battle of Fallen Timbers: A Change of Worlds by Dave Westrick
DESCRIPTION:Author Dave Westrick shares the forgotten stories of the defenders\, invaders and all the people caught in the middle. On a hot\, humid August morning in 1794\, an army representing fifteen quarreling states met an alliance of Native American tribes at a place called Fallen Timbers. The battle lasted less than two hours\, with fewer than one hundred killed. For the United States\, it was the beginning of greatness and the birth of a proud military tradition. For the Native Americans\, it was the end of the life they had led for thousands of years.Stop by for coffee & donuts in person\, included with Museum admission (free for members) or watch at home online. Followed by a book signing. \n\n\n\n\nWatch Online

SUMMARY:Maritime Lecture Series - The Fewer\, the Prouder: Women in the United States Marine Corps by Sarah Westrick
DESCRIPTION:From the U.S.S. Constitution to Abbey Gate Ms. Westrick will cover key pivotal moments for women in the united States Marine Corps. Special attention will be paid to the early days of the First and Second World Wars\, the journey from reservists to full-fledged Marines and the path into combat forged during the Global War on Terror. Uniforms and artifacts will be available to examine.  Ms. Westrick is a native daughter of northwest Ohio\, being born in Putnam county and raised in Maumee. Ms. Westrick pursued a history and museum studies degree at Ohio University. She gained first-hand experience in the field interning in the Cornelius Ryan Archives. Later she went on to work with veterans as she studied Art and other alternative therapy methods at Mercyhurst University. Military history and working with veterans are a lifelong calling of hers. She has contributed to events in coordination with the National Park Service and lectures at Museums around the Midatlantic and Midwest. Her passion for the Marine Corps started at a very young age when she became enamored of her Grandfathers stories and photos from his time in the Korean War. She is currently a member of the United States Marine Corp Historic Company\, and the Iwo Jima Veterans of America Association.Stop by for coffee & donuts in person\, included with Museum admission (free for members) or watch at home online. \n\n\n\n\nRegister to watch online
